Scottish green list: If you know someone who is doing their bit to make Scotland more sustainable, to make the links between tackling our biggest environmental, social and economic issues, and who is an inspiration to us all to do more, then the Scottish Sustainable Development Forum wants to hear about them. Green jobs blueprint: Plans to create thousands of green energy jobs by 2020 have been announced. The Scottish Government will progress action as part of its economic recovery programme - across energy generation, energy efficiency and transport - to create new jobs, tackle climate change and save households and businesses money. Energy efficient housing prize: A new £1 million annual prize fund to inspire innovative ways of improving the energy efficiency of Scotland's housing sector has been launched. The Scottish Energy Efficiency Design Awards will be open to applications from April this year. More info
Perthshire powers ahead: A hydro electric scheme, capable of powering up to 700 homes, has been given the go ahead by Scottish Ministers. The run of river station, at Invervar in North Perthshire, will have an installed capacity of 1.2 Megawatts (MW). More info
INCREASE funding for community projects: 10 projects across Scotland have been offered a total of over £1.2 million to deal with waste at community level. A composting service in Aberdeen, reusing building materials in Lanarkshire and diverting white goods from landfill in Dundee are among the successful applicants from the 'INCREASE III' fund. VIBES 2009 - Open for business: The Vision in Business and the Environment Awards (VIBES) is open for business. In their 10th year the awards will be launched at the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 4th March. More info

Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards 2009: launches in Edinburgh on 10 March 2009, when entries for this year's scheme will open. The event will take place in the Garden Lobby at the Scottish Parliament, starting at 1830 hours and is expected to last an hour.
Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Environment, John Scott MSP, is kindly sponsoring this event and speeches will be given by:

- SEPA Chairman David Sigsworth;
- VIBES Chair Gillian Bruce;
- James Macsween, Director of Macsween of Edinburgh, winner of a VIBES Management Award in 2008.

- Attitudes to air travel on the change: The British Social Attitudes report has found high levels of public concern about the environmental impact of air travel, and a growing agreement that the cost of flying should reflect environmental damage even if this means fares rise sharply as a result. Plastics recycling key part of waste vision: A new £5 million scheme to bring plastics recycling closer to home has been announced. With most of the plastics collected being processed south of the border or overseas in countries such as China, the Scottish Government's capital grants scheme seeks to improve recycling infrastructure in Scotland. Scotland rules the waves: One of the world's largest wave stations will be constructed off the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles, creating up to 70 jobs and advancing Scotland's lead in renewable energy. More info
Construction of bioenergy plant: Work has started on the construction of Diageo Scotland's £65 milion bioenergy plant. The plant will generate renewable energy from spent wash - a mixture of wheat, malted barley, yeast and water - produced during distillation to replace 95 per cent of its fossil fuel usage with green energy. Student placement programmes: Do you have an environmental project you need to move forward? The student placement programme run by the Business Environment Partnership is now looking for businesses interested in 2009 placements. More info
W&S Recycling Target Business WEEE: Dorset-based recycling and logistics company W&S Recycling has launched a new nationwide WEEE recycling service for businesses.
The company, which has its headquarters in Poole, has developed the WEEE Bag in response to the increasing onus on businesses to ensure their WEEE is collected and recycled according to the requirements of the WEEE Regulations. The collection service has been rolled out across England, Scotland and Wales. More info
Support for Business: A new initiative to help Scotland's businesses capitalise on the 'massive economic opportunities' offered by major events held in Scotland has been launched.
The BusinessClub Scotland initiative is a collaboration of Scotland's business organisations, supported and funded by the Scottish Government, to ensure that firms across Scotland capitalise on the business opportunities from the Year of Homecoming, the 2014 Commonwealth Games and other major events in Scotland. Energy Efficient Housing Prize: A new £1 million pound annual prize fund to inspire innovative ways of improving the energy efficiency of Scotland's housing sector has been launched. The awards will focus on innovation and design solutions to encourage the development of low carbon buildings, with a particular emphasis on housing. More info

Eleven companies beat off stiff competition from the cream of Scotland's green businesses to take winners titles at the 2008 Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards. Fair trade at home and abroad: Funding of £20,000 to help raise awareness of Fair Trade issues in Scotland in the run up to Fair Trade Fortnight in February / March 2009 has been announced. More info
Green energy awards 2008: Trailblazing businesses and individuals who have played a key part in helping reduce Scotland's carbon footprint have won major accolades at the Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards. Winners were announced at a gala ceremony on Thursday, December 4, at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh. More info
Future of the red squirrel: A new project to stop the expansion of grey squirrel numbers in the north of Scotland will launch early next year. Environment Minister Michael Russell heard about the project, the ultimate aim of which is to ensure a prosperous future for Scotland's native red squirrel. More info
Improving waste performance: The drive to make Scotland a Zero Waste society increased today with the distribution of almost £18 million to local authorities. The investment, which will aim to improve recycling rates and cut the amount of waste going to landfill, comes from the Scottish Government's Zero Waste Fund for 2008-09. More info
Renewables powering more of Scotland: New statistics show renewable energy accounted for a fifth of Scotland's electricity needs in 2007. That is a rise of 18 per cent since 2006, with renewables now at their highest ever level. By contrast, nuclear power generation in Scotland is at its lowest level in the 21st century. More info
