Waste Data

Scotland Business Waste Survey

SEPA is to undertake a second national survey of businesses in Scotland to gather information on the types and quantities of waste generated in 2006. The survey will use a paper and on-line questionnaire to target 30,000 randomly selected businesses of varying sizes across Scotland, sent out in September 2007 and will collect data for the calendar year 2006. The Scottish Government is supportive of this survey and is endorsed by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

The survey aims to provide accurate information on the wastes that come from businesses in Scotland.  The results will be used for national and European reporting, and to help businesses improve their waste management practices, which could save them money and increase efficiency. The aggregated data will also aid the development of better waste services for Scottish businesses.

The report will be published on the SEPA website in autumn 2008.

They are encouraging respondents to use the online version of the questionnaire, as it is quicker and easier, and will help to save resources.

All information provided by businesses will be treated in strict confidence and the results will not individually identify any business.

If you have any further questions about the survey please email waste.survey@sepa.org.uk

Results of the first survey, which gathered data for 2004, are available on the SEPA website at www.sepa.org.uk/nws/data/survey.htm
