Energy Efficiency and Microgeneration: Achieving a Low Carbon Future: A Strategy for Scotland "Whilst energy policy and many of the regulatory powers associated with energy efficiency are the responsibility of Westminster, Scottish Ministers have chosen to take the lead by publishing this Strategy and by setting out the action they propose to take to help us meet our ambitious carbon savings targets through improving energy efficiency and encouraging a greater uptake of microgeneration. I want all of the people of Scotland, in their homes and in their places of work, to play a role in combating the effects of climate change - principally by reducing demand for energy through improved energy efficiency but also by microgeneration with low carbon technologies. To help us all think in a holistic way about the buildings in which we live and work, this strategy therefore addresses both energy efficiency and microgeneration." (Nicol Stephens MSP) Closes 11th June Link to consultation

Business Waste Framework and Action PlanThe National Waste Plan (2003) sets out the direction of Scotland's waste strategy up to 2020. The focus has been mainly on municipal waste and includes ambitious recycling and composting and waste prevention targets. This framework, in conjunction with the National Waste Plan, outlines the Scottish Executive (the Executive) and Scottish Environment Protection Agency's ( SEPA) approach to business 1 waste. While the municipal waste elements of the National Waste Plan have been underpinned by significant financial support through the Strategic Waste Fund, this is not applicable for business waste as the 'polluter pays' principle is well established and requires that waste producers pay for the collection and disposal of the waste they produce. This means that public money should be directed to providing support and advice and intervening where there is a particular need to stimulate trends, or evidence of market failure. Two New Sources of Funding for Environmental Projects: 2007/08  The Scottish Executive under the banner of Natural Scotland: It's Our Future.  The Environmental Justice Fund has £2 million available for communities, and The Community Environmental Renewal Scheme has some £1.75 million. The schemes are being managed by Forward Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Executive, and will run for one year to the end of March 2008. Both schemes were launched today, 5 March 2007, and will support projects that help communities enjoy their local environment and become more involved in the amenities and activities it provides, as well as the issues and decision-making that surrounds it. We hope this will lead to communities becoming stronger, safer and more inclusive. Although applications can be made to both schemes, projects may only receive an award from one of the funds.   For further information visit the fund section of this web page
