Funding News

  • B&Q One Planet Living Awards

Awards of up to £10,000 of B&Q products are available to environmental groups, community organisations, schools, charities or sports clubs, etc  which are working on projects that aim to enhance the local community or help return to the one planet living. Applications close: 27th March 2009. More info

  • Community Food and Health Grants

Small grants of between £500 and £3,000 are available to groups and agencies in Scotland working within low-income communities to improve access to, and take up of a healthy, varied and balanced diet. Applications open: 21st April 2009. More info

  • Centre for Social Justice Awards

Charities, small voluntary groups, or other projects tackling poverty in at the local level are invited to apply for the Centre for Social Justice Awards 2009. With a prize fund of £50,000, the Award aims to recognise and reward effective poverty fighting groups from across the UK. Applications close: 17th March 2009. More info

  • Scottish Community Foundation

Express Grants are available to community groups looking for funding of up to £2,000. The scheme has a straightforward application process, and a short turnaround time. Applications can be made at any time. More info

  • Climate challenge fund

Communities across Scotland have been awarded over £4 million from the Climate Challenge Fund to help reduce their carbon footprint and save residents cash. Successful projects include using wool to insulate homes, a local food network in Fife and Community Power Down, the first cross-community project awarded cash from the fund. More info

  • Energy Saving Scotland - small business loans

The Loan Action Scotland (LAS) programme has been transferred to the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland to manage and administer. The scheme has changed in name from Loan Action Scotland to Energy Saving Scotland – small business loans. The minimum loan value has been reduced from £5,000 to £1,000 and the maximum loan remains at £100,000. Loans for renewable installations (although eligible under the previous scheme) are more attractive for businesses due to an extended payback period and the fact that the loan value for renewable installations is no longer linked to the predicted energy savings calculated during an energy audit/review. Private sector landlords are now eligible to apply under the new criteria.

  • Future friendly awards

    Future Friendly is a partnership between brands and leading experts to inspire people to live more sustainable lives through saving energy and water and reducing waste. They are offering local environmental heroes with a chance to win a bursary worth £20,000 to fund your ideas and projects. Entries close: 23rd January 2009. More info
  • Help for Scottish social entrepreneurs

    A £1 million fund to help aspiring social entrepreneurs launch new ventures is ready to begin operating from March next year. Enterprise Minister Jim Mather said that the £1 million Social Entrepreneurs Fund would provide support to help get new social enterprises off the ground with individuals setting-up and running businesses with a social and/or environmental purpose eligible to apply.   • Batty Charitable Trust

    Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available to support community and grass root projects. Grants are usually awarded for a one year period. Applications can not be made until April 2009. More info
  • Green Energy Trust

    Local community groups and not for profit organisations can apply for grants for the installation of renewable technologies. The funding which is available through the Green Energy Trust will provide grants of up to £25,000 for up to half the cost of the chosen renewable technology. Applications are considered three times a year. More info
  • Grants to Promote Walking

    The Paths for All Partnership has announced that it has funding available to fund new and innovative ways of promoting walking for health. Funding is available through two funding streams: The small grants schemes for grant of up to £2,000, and the large grants scheme for grants of between £2,000 and £40,000 for projects lasting up to three years. Applications close: 6 April 2009. More info

  • Nationwide Foundation Small Grants Programme

    The Nationwide Foundation are offering grants of up to £5,000 for charities that help people to take part in building better futures for their community. Applications can be made at any time. More info
  • Ibrahim Foundation

    Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to organisations which aim to improve the quality of life for people and communities in the UK. Applications can be made at any time. More info
  • Ashden Awards

    The Ashden UK Awards is an annual competition to identify and reward organisations which have carried out innovative, practical schemes with a proven track record of providing sustainable energy at a local level, in a way which both improves quality of life and tackles environmental problems.   • Volunteering Scotland Grants Scheme

    The Voluntary Action Fund receives funding from the Scottish Executive to enable us to support voluntary and community organisations in taking forward social change. The grant programmes are linked by the common threads of social inclusion and support for organisations to become stronger. The projects they fund are all focused on providing real solutions to identified community need. Each grant programme has its individual criteria and priorities as well as a direct link to government policy. More info

  • DFID Development awareness fund

    The aim of the Development Awareness Fund is to raise awareness of global issues in the UK. Grants of up to £10,000 per year for 1-3 year projects committed to raising awareness of global interdependence, the need to reduce poverty and the roles individuals can play by making informed choices are available..   • Voluntary Sector Development Fund

The purpose of this fund is to assist Voluntary Sector organisations in meeting the costs of developing a highly trained and qualified workforce. More info

  • Green Grants Machine

    The Green Grants Machine features more than £1.2 billion-worth of environmental funding programmes on its FREE online searchable database – including over 100 funds that Scottish businesses can apply to. It is the UK’s first green funding website aimed exclusively at businesses and provides access to the latest information on funding available to improve their environmental performance and reduce their energy costs. The site is updated daily and features more than 350 funding schemes available from local, regional, national and European sources. Users of the website will also benefit from a regular e-newsletter and grant alert service through which they will be kept up to date with all the latest changes in green funding and policy.   • Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust

    Grants are available for projects that will improve the knowledge or practice of energy efficiency in buildings. More info
  • The Naturesave Trust

    The Naturesave Trust is funded directly from the premiums of Naturesave Policies Ltd household, travel and personal accident policies.The scope of projects funded is broad. They seek to financially assist those projects that deal with the root of a specific environmental and/or conservationist problem and those that encourage the greater commercial adoption of sustainable development.There are no deadlines for applications, which are dealt with on a 'rolling' basis, and the funding available for projects ranges from £100 to £10,000, with the average grant being around £2,000.   • Low Carbon Building Programme

    Organisations can apply for between 30% and 50% of the cost of installing approved microgeneration technologies. The programme provides grants for the installation of microgeneration technologies in a range of buildings to include households, community organisations, public, private and the non-profit sectors.   • Funding for Local Sustainable Energy Projects

The SOURCE Fund offers grants of up to £20,000 to community groups and not for profit organisations who wish to consider and implement sustainable energy projects in their buildings – from energy efficiency through to micro-generation.   • Heritage Lottery Fund - Landscape Partnerships (UK)

This scheme provides grants of between £250,000 and £2 million to local partnerships representing a range of heritage and community interests to tackle the needs of landscapes. The initiative will mainly help HLF to promote heritage conservation as an integral part of rural regeneration.   • Community Food and Health (Scotland) small grants scheme

Community Food and Health (Scotland) has an annual small grants scheme available for groups and agencies in Scotland who wish to improve access to, and take up of a healthy, varied and balanced diet.   • Funding to Support Community Based Heritage Projects

Your Heritage provides grants of between £3,000 and £50,000 to support projects that relate to the local, regional or national heritage of the UK. We welcome applications that help people to learn about, look after and celebrate heritage in a fun and enjoyable way. More info.

  • Awards for All Scotland

Awards for All Scotland is supported by the Scottish Arts Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund.We award grants of between £500 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.   • CSV Action Earth Grants

If you are planning any environmental work involving volunteers, you could be eligible for an award. They have easy to access grants of up to £50 which can be used for tools and equipment, plants and shrubs, bird and bat boxes or even to provide volunteer refreshments.   • Shell Springboard Fund

The Shell Springboard Fund awards grants of between £20K and £40K to SMEs in Scotland with business ideas to combat climate change. In short, the judges are looking for business plans for a product or service which; will lead to greenhouse gas reductions; are commercially viable; and are innovative.
