  • Help for Scottish social entrepreneurs

    A £1 million fund to help aspiring social entrepreneurs launch new ventures is ready to begin operating from March next year. Enterprise Minister Jim Mather said that the £1 million Social Entrepreneurs Fund would provide support to help get new social enterprises off the ground with individuals setting-up and running businesses with a social and/or environmental purpose eligible to apply.   • Batty Charitable Trust

    Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available to support community and grass root projects. Grants are usually awarded for a one year period. Applications can be made at any time. More info
  • Green Energy Trust

    Local community groups and not for profit organisations can apply for grants for the installation of renewable technologies. The funding which is available through the Green Energy Trust will provide grants of up to £25,000 for up to half the cost of the chosen renewable technology. Applications are considered three times a year. More info
  • Grants to Promote Walking

    The Paths for All Partnership has announced that it has funding available to fund new and innovative ways of promoting walking for health. Funding is available through two funding streams: The small grants schemes for grant of up to £2,000, and the large grants scheme for grants of between £2,000 and £40,000 for projects lasting up to three years. Applications close: 5 January 2009. More info
  • Climate Challenge Fund

  • Nationwide Foundation Small Grants Programme

    The Nationwide Foundation are offering grants of up to £5,000 for charities that help people to take part in building better futures for their community. Applications can be made at any time. More info
  • Ibrahim Foundation

    Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to organisations which aim to improve the quality of life for people and communities in the UK. Applications can be made at any time. More info
  • EAS Energy Savers Awards now open

    The EAS are looking for organisations that have run projects that help tackle fuel poverty and improve domestic energy efficiency in Scotland. Prizes of up to £1,500 are available for the winning organisation. Entries close: 3rd October 2008. More info
  • Entries sought for Scottish Waste & Resources Awards

    The Scottish Waste & Resources Industry is seeking entries from those organisation that have shown an outstanding contribution, through best practice and innovation, to the Scottish waste, recycling and resource management sectors. Entries close: 5th September 2008. More info
  • Ashden Awards

    The Ashden UK Awards is an annual competition to identify and reward organisations which have carried out innovative, practical schemes with a proven track record of providing sustainable energy at a local level, in a way which both improves quality of life and tackles environmental problems. Expressions of interest close: 28th October 2008. More info
  • Volunteering Scotland Grants Scheme

    This scheme can provide funding for up to three years for projects that attract harder to reach volunteers. Applications for main programme close: 30th September 2008. More info
  • Grants to promote walking

    Grants of between £2,000 and £40,000 are available from the Paths for All Partnership to fund new and innovative ways of promoting walking for health. Applications for large grants close: 1st October 2008. More info
  • DFID Development awareness fund

    The aim of the Development Awareness Fund is to raise awareness of global issues in the UK. Grants of up to £10,000 per year for 1-3 year projects committed to raising awareness of global interdependence, the need to reduce poverty and the roles individuals can play by making informed choices are available. Applications close: 31st October 2008. More info
  • Funding to Tackle the School Run

    Sustrans Scotland are inviting school travel co-ordinators to submit bids for soft measure projects up to £11,000 per local authority. Applications close: 1 September 2008. More info

  • Life + Programme

The European Commission has announced a new call for proposals for projects funded by the LIFE+ programme. There are four priority areas for funding: climate change, nature and biodiversity, health and quality of life, and natural resources and waste. Applications close: 21 November 2008. More info

  • Energy Funding

Researchers based at any institution eligible for funding through the UK Research Councils are being invited to bid for funding through the Research Councils’ Energy Research Programme. The programme has two key research themes: Energy & Equity and Sustainable Energy & Energy Security. Applications close: 4 September 2008. More info

  • Voluntary Sector Development Fund

The purpose of this fund is to assist Voluntary Sector organisations in meeting the costs of developing a highly trained and qualified workforce. Applications close: 31 October 2008. More info 

  • Triodos Opportunities Fund

Social finance specialists, Triodos Bank, have announced a new venture capital fund for social enterprises. Triodos is now seeking to invest between £200,000 and £750,000 in social enterprises with a proven business model that are looking to grow and scale up their operations. More info

  • Green Grants Machine

    The Green Grants Machine www.greengrantsmachine.co.uk has just been launched featuring more than £1.2 billion-worth of environmental funding programmes on its FREE online searchable database – including over 100 funds that Scottish businesses can apply to. It is the UK’s first green funding website aimed exclusively at businesses and provides access to the latest information on funding available to improve their environmental performance and reduce their energy costs. The site is updated daily and features more than 350 funding schemes available from local, regional, national and European sources.  The website also includes plain English advice about how any organisation can take simple actions to go green. Users of the website will also benefit from a regular e-newsletter and grant alert service through which they will be kept up to date with all the latest changes in green funding and policy.   • Loan Action Scotland

Loan Action Scotland is an interest-free loan scheme for energy efficiency. As a result of becoming more efficient companies can make considerable savings on their energy bills as well as reducing their CO2 output. They can borrow between £5,000 and £100,000 interest-free in order to replace old inefficient technology or to make their premises better insulated or more air tight. There are many areas which can be improved on. One of the benefits of applying for Loan Action Scotland is that the company will receive a free energy audit. It takes roughly 6 months for LAS projects to work from inception to fruition. We have now reached the stage in the project that there are few new projects and it would therefore be beneficial to refresh client memories. In addition, source of funding for LAS in the east of Scotland (ESEP areas) is only available until 31st March 08.   • Funding Support Scheme Launched for Recycling Service Providers

    A new Funding Support Scheme has been launched by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) aimed at helping new and existing recycling service providers develop and expand services, primarily with the aim of enabling more Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to recycle. More info
  • Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust

    Grants are available for projects that will improve the knowledge or practice of energy efficiency in buildings. Applications close: 31st Mar 2008. More info
  • The Naturesave Trust

    The Naturesave Trust is funded directly from the premiums of Naturesave Policies Ltd household, travel and personal accident policies.The scope of projects funded is broad. They seek to financially assist those projects that deal with the root of a specific environmental and/or conservationist problem and those that encourage the greater commercial adoption of sustainable development.As a new business entrepreneur who is keen to set up a company/ organisation, which seeks to promote greater awareness of sustainable development, you may be eligible for a business grant to assist your start up. Alternatively you may be an existing company and or charity which is seeking match funding or funding for a specific project. There are no deadlines for applications, which are dealt with on a 'rolling' basis, and the funding available for projects ranges from £100 to £10,000, with the average grant being around £2,000.   • Low Carbon Building Programme

    Organisations can apply for between 30% and 50% of the cost of installing approved microgeneration technologies. The programme provides grants for the installation of microgeneration technologies in a range of buildings to include households, community organisations, public, private and the non-profit sectors.   • Funding Support Scheme to Provide Recycling Services to Businesses

Whether you need extra staff to expand your collection round, help with selling your service to more businesses, additional collection sacks and bins to provide services to more customers or a combination of measures, WRAP’s funding support scheme may be able to help your organisation.   • WRAP Innovation Fund

The Innovation Fund was launched in November 2004 and there have been six Rounds to date. It aims to reduce household waste through supporting research and development projects that focus on packaging optimisation and design innovation and reducing food that households throw away.   • Funding for Local Sustainable Energy Projects

The SOURCE Fund offers grants of up to £30,000 to community groups and not for profit organisations who wish to consider and implement sustainable energy projects in their buildings – from energy efficiency through to micro-generation.   • Heritage Lottery Fund - Landscape Partnerships (UK)

    This scheme provides grants of between £250,000 and £2 million to local partnerships representing a range of heritage and community interests to tackle the needs of landscapes. The initiative will mainly help HLF to promote heritage conservation as an integral part of rural regeneration. The Landscape Partnerships programme is changing in 2008. New Landscape Partnerships application materials and guidance will be available from 1 April 2008. You can apply using the new pack at any time from April 2008 onwards. The deadline for stage-one applications is 30 November 2008 with first decisions in April 2009.   • Community Food and Health (Scotland) small grants scheme

Community Food and Health (Scotland) has an annual small grants scheme available for groups and agencies in Scotland who wish to improve access to, and take up of a healthy, varied and balanced diet. Grants from £500 to £3000 are available and grant recipients are expected to spend their grant money within one year.   • Scottish Community Foundation

    Scottish Community Foundation is launching a programme of grants of between £10-25K per year, for upto 2 years. Projects must relate to one of 3 specific investment areas: building enterprising communities; connecting generations; repositioning organisations.   • Funding to Support Community Based Heritage Projects

Your Heritage provides grants of between £5,000 and £50,000 to support community-focused heritage projects. To qualify for a grant your project should either: conserve and enhance our diverse heritage or encourage communities to identify, look after and celebrate their heritage. The project must also: increase opportunities for learning about heritage; and open up heritage resources and sites to the widest possible audiences. More info.

  • Awards for All Scotland

Awards for All Scotland is supported by the Scottish Arts Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund.We award grants of between £500 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.   • The Environmental Justice Fund (EJF)

Grants of between £100,000 and £500,000 will be available to improve the quality of local environments in communities that suffer the effects of negative environmental impacts such as past or present industry, pollution or other damaging activities.  They are particularly keen to see applications submitted from community organisations such as Community Councils or local community/voluntary groups, although a range of organisations are eligible to apply, includinglocal authorities and other agencies.  However, awards will only be made where local communities are fully engaged in the design and delivery of the project.   • The Community Environmental Renewal Scheme (CERS)

    The Community Environmental Renewal Scheme will award grants of up to £100,000 to support projects within communities that can demonstrate that they have been affected by local aggregates extraction activities, and which will improve the local environment for and with communities. The scheme aims to directly support community organisations in delivering their projects. Projects typically supported byCERS will be directed at the provision, restoration, protection or the promotion of understanding of one or more of the following three themes: landscape, habitats and local biodiversity; the built or cultural environment, including historic, geological or archaeological heritage; and community recreational amenities.   • CSV Action Earth Grants

If you are planning any environmental work involving volunteers, you could be eligible for an award. They have easy to access grants of up to £50.00 which can be used for tools and equipment, plants and shrubs, bird and bat boxes or even to provide volunteer refreshments. Grants are available on a first come basis and always go fast, so please apply as soon as possible.   • Shell Springboard Fund

Climate Change Opportunity Launched in June the Shell Springboard Fund is looking to award grants of between £20K and £40K to SMEs in Scotland with business ideas to combat climate change. In short, the judges are looking for business plans for a product or service which; will lead to greenhouse gas reductions; are commercially viable; and are innovative.
